Reclaiming Ground Zero After 9/11: The Untold Story of How Citizens Shaped the Rebuilding of the WTC Site

After the 9/11 attacks 25 years ago, when the smoke was gone and the rubble had been cleared, New Yorkers had a city to rebuild. In response to fast-tracked redevelopment plans, more than 5000 citizens from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut gathered for the largest town hall in American history. They came to vote on the city’s six proposals for rebuilding Ground Zero. But instead, they ended up charting a new path forward. Their work determined what is at Ground Zero today. And, their previously untold story is an example of what participatory democracy can look like.

The documentary film will begin promptly at 2pm on September 19 followed by a discussion with Executive Producer, Carolyn Lukensmeyer.

LWV Greenwich, CT Public and the Braver Angels Connecticut Alliance will be hosting informational tables as community partners beginning at 1:30pm and after the film discussion ends.
