I write with great sadness to share the news of the passing of cherished LWV Greenwich member and past president, Jara Burnett. Jara’s leadership and dedication was invaluable to the League. She worked tirelessly to promote democracy and civic engagement, and made enormous contributions to both the League and the Town of Greenwich. In 2019, we established the Burnett Award in her honor, recognizing that her “decades of vision, commitment, and leadership of LWV Greenwich have been an inspiration to all.”
Jara lived an extraordinary life, which you can read about HERE. In addition to her many public roles, Jara was a mentor, a friend, and a source of inspiration to many. She will be deeply missed, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family.
I am informed that a celebration of Jara's life will be held at Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich, Connecticut on Saturday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m and that all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
