9th Annual Community Case Discussion: How the Secret Ballot Came to America
About this event
Wednesday, November 12th | 6pm
As part of the town’s America 250 | Greenwich celebration, we hope you will join us for our 9th annual community case discussion featuring a brand new case reading this year: “An Australian (secret) Ballot for California”.
Did you know that for much of the 19th century, a voter’s choice of candidate was public in the US, exposing them to coercion, bribery and intimidation by everyone from employers to political party bosses? Learn about the tactics reformers used to overcome the preferences of these powerful interests to bring us the voting system we enjoy today.
Everyone who attends the event will be expected to read the short Harvard Business School case in advance and come prepared for a lively discussion. The case will be provided upon registration.
Event Co-sponsors: Greenwich Historical Society & Greenwich High School Social Studies Department
Case Discussion Facilitator:
Michelle Cota is currently enjoying her 30th year of teaching high school English and her third year teaching high school Social Studies.
She earned her Master's in Language and Literacy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and her B.S. in Secondary English Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
