2020 Candidate debates

Moderated candidate debates for all contested elections this fall will begin at 7 pm.  All candidates will be socially distanced in the Greenwich Town Hall Meeting Room, by special arrangement with the First Selectman, Fred Camillo.  Registrants will attend virtually through Zoom.

The first debate between candidates for State Senate District #36 -- Alex Kasser, D, and Ryan Fazio, R -- will begin at 7 pm.  This debate will last 45 minutes.

The second debate will begin at 7:45, a moderated debate between State Legislative Representatives for Districts 149 (Kathleen Stowe, D, and Kimberly Fiorello, R), District 150 (Stephen Meskers, D, and Joseph Kelly, R), and District 151 (Hector Arzeno, D, and Harry Arora, R) will follow.

The Moderator for both debates will be Kay Maxwell, former President of the Connecticut League of Women Voters and the League of Women Voters of the USA.   The debates will be conducted in Cumulative Time format.  This format is designed to enable candidates to elaborate freely on their approaches to a variety of issues, unimpeded by the strict time constraints of a more traditional debate format.  LWV Greenwich timers will track how much time each candidate uses.

This is a virtual event, open to anyone who registers.  League members should activate their account and register as a member for this event.

Registrants may submit questions by October 4 by responding to the reservation confirmation.  One Democrat and one Republican League member will review questions to ensure that both candidates may answer.
